What sits inside an on-road price
- Ex-showroom — the manufacturer’s price. Broadly the same across India for a given variant.
- TCS at 1% — tax collected at source on cars above ₹10 lakh, adjustable against your income tax.
- Road tax — set by the state, not the dealer. This is the line that makes the same car cost differently in Delhi and Haryana.
- Green cess — applies to diesel cars registered in Delhi.
- Insurance — where a showroom quote and an open-market quote usually diverge most.
- Registration and handling — the smallest line, and the one most often left vague.
